Description: The Livonian song ensemble was formed 8 January 1972 by Livonians living in Riga and its vicinities. It was courageous and, from the point of view of the cultural survival - absolutely necessary action, since the attitude towards the Livonian national aspirations in Soviet Latvia was not always positive. The first leaders were Dzidra Kļaviņa and Dzintars Kļaviņš.
The ensemble has found its name Līvlist in 1975 on the initiative of its participant the Livonian poet Pēteris Dambergs.
The repertoir comprises Livonian folk and original songs, as well as musical stagings, for example Livonian wedding, which has been performed not only in Latvia, but also in Estonia and Finland. The ensemble sings in Livonian language and in the Livonian dialect of the Latvian language, has sung in Estonian and Finnish earlier.
The Livonian song ensemble has performed in different places of Latvia, Estonia and Finland, participated in folklore festivals and Song festivals. Traditional are the concerts in the Ethnographical museum and on the Livonian holiday in Mazirbe.
The connoisseurs of Livonian language remained not so much, therefore ensemble plays the important role in struggle for its preservation.
